Packing List/ Expected Attire

Try to plan your attire ahead. This will help prevent over- and under-packing. These days conferences are trending more casual, but try to avoid being too casual (i.e., t-shirts, shorts, flip flops). Please keep an eye on the weather and your health. In general, we recommend a mix of casual and business casual attire. We have listed some examples below.

  • Convention session attire – some ideas could include but are not limited to:
    • Shirt with collar, polo shirt, button down shirt shirt, blouse
    • Slacks, dark jeans, skirts
    • Business casual dresses
    • Short-Sleeved Button Down Shirts & Khaki pants are also acceptable
    • Shorts may not be appropriate for convention and session events but you are welcome to pack some for the less formal events and other activities
  • Event attire (Dinners, etc.):
    • More formal clothing for evening events
  • Casual attire for group activities outside of the Convention.
  • Comfortable shoes – days at the Convention are long. Avoid athletic shoes, flip flops or other sandals during the convention sessions.
  • Bathing suit & flip flops – especially if you are interested in participating in the President’s Cup!
  • Bring layers (jacket/sweater) for evenings or for inside the hotel / convention center, sometimes the AC feels high - both in the convention space and / or your hotel room!
  • Portable charger, mints, business cards (see Networking Tips).
  • Water bottle (there will be water/drinks at the convention, but nice to have).
  • We encourage everyone to take precautions against COVID-19, including masks, wipes, and hand sanitizer.

If you are still unsure what to wear or pack, feel free to ask your partner.

SEAOC

The Structural Engineers Association of California is composed of four individual Member Organizations (MOs):
  • Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) – green,
  • Structural Engineers Association of Central California (SEAOCC) – blue,
  • Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) – red, and
  • Structural Engineers Association of San Diego (SEAOSD) – orange.
SEAOC is also itself a member organization of the Nation Council of Structural Engineering Associations (NCSEA). California is unique in that it has additional regional MOs, while most states have only one chapter (for example SEAW (Washington) or SEAONY (New York)).
