2023 NCSEA Summit SE Pathways Participant Testimonials
It was very mind-expanding to me being welcomed with open arms. I have struggled with inclusion in engineering for many years and it was such an emotional experience for me. I was genuinely surprised by everyone's friendliness and understanding. I am extremely thankful these opportunities for diversity and inclusion exist. I feel a lot more self-confident knowing I have a place in structural engineering.

This was a great opportunity that I never thought I needed. Going into structural engineering, I'm always surrounded by students and professors and I never really got the chance to talk to other engineers the way I did at the summit. I met many CEOS, Presidents, other students from other Universities, people who just started working, people who have been working for years, and this was very motivational because now I know what I can achieve in this field and it was a great way to refresh my drive for the field.

The Pathways Program provided a safe and welcoming framework within which to navigate my first conference. Participating in the Pathways specific workshops and events made the whole experience less overwhelming because it made me feel like I was not being thrown into the deep end by myself; I had a network to come back to if needed.

2022 SEAOC Convention SE Pathways Participant Testimonials
Thank you so much for an amazing experience at my first convention! I learned so much each day, and am excited to see what the future holds for myself as an engineer and member of SEAOC. The professional development tracks were especially insightful as a young professional. Being able to talk candidly with engineers farther along in their career was one of the best parts of the experience. I hope I can attend conventions in the future, and work my way into a mentor position to help future cohort members! Thanks again!

SE Pathways Cohort was an incredibly valuable experience and such a wonderful community that I didn't realize I was missing and needing. Before SE Pathways, I was content just working and growing within my company, but after I have inspired by the significance of Pathways, SEAOC and how big of an impact and change we can have on the industry by all working together. I was constantly inspired by other individuals within my cohort as well as the rest of the members at SEAOC. The conversations had within the those few days has my head spinning with so many ideas, action ideas, and motivation. While all the technical sessions were intriguing it was truly the community aspect of the cohort that all stuck with us. It also showed my the importance of having peers outside of my company and help share ideas with one another so we can all collectively improve as an industry. I came back with a lot of ideas to discuss with my team and company. SEAOC and SE Pathways also helped showed me all the doors to the different career paths and I am starting to grow a clearer picture for myself in what I want for myself moving forward in the future.

Conversations sparked by a workshop in the SE Pathways Cohort Program encouraged me to talk to my employers about solidifying our company's mentorship program. I discussed opportunities for involvement with SE3 and connected more intentionally with people I already knew. I learned so much about myself, opportunities in the profession of structural engineering, and the possibilities for my career. I hope to have the opportunity to participate in this program again.

The Pathways Cohort felt like a safe space for me to connect with other convention attendees. It was easy for me to leave my anxiety at the door and walk up to people; knowing that we had come to the convention for similar reasons and under similar circumstances (first time attendees, new to the profession, maybe a little nervous). Participating in the Cohort made me feel optimistic about the future of structural engineering. I truly felt like I was in a room of people who care about structural engineers not only succeeding, but thriving in the profession.
Hearing about people's experiences with imposter syndrome, struggling with work-stress, etc made me feel less alone. It made me feel validated and more confident in myself to hear that other successful engineers have struggled with things that I have been struggling with.
